About
Claire’s research interests are centred on how we use textiles artefacts – garments and interior textiles – as social agents, and how seemingly ubiquitous garments and textiles become personalised and relevant within their social context. This use of the garment as a material artefact, which embodies a repository of personal memories, is explored experientially, to gain a rich understanding of the semantic and embodied meaning for individuals of their personal ‘archives’ of garments and textiles. This exploration is interdisciplinary in nature, and encompasses design theory, phenomenology, and anthropological readings of fashion and textile design as material culture.
